Missionary Ridge Camp #63 Minutes of the meeting held Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge, Tennessee.

Those present: James Fletcher, Mark Steele, Mark Kemp, Robert Dobbs and Harvey Scarborough.

CALL TO ORDER: Commander Fletcher called the meeting to order at approximately 1:55 PM ET following our lunch.

OPENING PRAYER: Mark Kemp gave the opening prayer.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commander Fletcher led the camp in the pledge to the flag of the United States of America.

OLD BUSINESS: Commander Fletcher called for old business. There was no old business to discuss.


The Camp's participation in the upcoming Veterans' Day Parade in Dalton, Georgia was discussed. It will be held on Sunday November 13, 2011. Although the Camp has participated in this parade in the past, it was decided not to participate this year. Several Camp members expressed regret at not being able to march in the parade due to injury, health reasons and personal conflicts.

CIVIL WAR EVENT: Mark Steele reported that the "Gone With The Wind" Ball will take place at the Gordon-Lee Mansion at Chickamauga, Georgia this coming Saturday, November 12, 2011. The event will feature Civil War re-enactors, living history displays and soldier demonstrations. The Gordon-Lee Mansion will be open for tours. According to the Gordon-Lee Mansion website ( http://gordonleemansion.com/Special%20Events%20page.htm) there will also be:

at 3:00 PM - "Civil War Hospitals and Medicine" display unveiled
       Address by Dr. John Fowler, Dalton State College

at 4:00 PM - Review and Promenade of Rhett and Scarlett look-a-like contestants

at 4:30 - 6:30 PM - "Gone With the Wind" Ball
       Experience the Atlanta Bazaar scene from the movie and buy your quilt raffle tickets
       Authentic period music provided by 8th Regiment Band - Dances will be called
       Period dress is welcome but not required.

CAMP MEMBERSHIP: Several members discussed the disappointing attendance at the Camp's meetings as well as the lack of new members during the past few years. Nothing conclusive was mentioned to resolve this problem.

OFFICER ELECTIONS: It was discussed that nominations and elections should take place at the December meeting. All members were asked to consider running for the various offices available within the Camp.

NEXT MEETING: It was decided to meet at noon on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Wally's Restaurant, East Ridge, Tennessee. A room was tentatively reserved for the Camp for 2 hours that day, subject to final confirmation of that reservation. The Restaurant said that they would contact Commander Fletcher with confirmation sometime on Monday. The Commander said he would pass along this confirmation when it was received.

BENEDICTION: Commander Fletcher gave the Benediction.

ADJOURN: There being no further business to come before the camp, Commander Fletcher adjourned the meeting at approximately 2:45 PM.
