Missionary Ridge Camp #63
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Department of Tennessee (including Alabama)

This meeting was held at 1 PM, Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge, Tennessee.

Members present: James Fletcher, Mark Steele, Mark Kemp, Robert Dobbs, Charles Engle, Bill Massey, Harvey Scarborough and one guest.

CALL TO ORDER: Commander Fletcher called the meeting to order at approximately 1:40 PM ET after the attendees had finished lunch.

INVOCATION: Bill Massey gave the opening prayer.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commander Fletcher led the camp in the pledge to the flag of the United States of America.

OLD BUSINESS: Commander Fletcher called for old business. There was no old business to discuss.

Treasurer's Report: Charles Engle reported a treasury balance of $775.72 which was unchanged from last month. He showed last month's bank statement to Commander Fletcher.

Membership and Dues: Charles Engle reported twelve paid memberships and six outstanding memberships due to non-payment of dues. He stated that of those six, two or three would most likely send in payment.

It was noted that of the $27 annual dues per person, the Camp retained only $4 from each member.

Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR): Charles Engle reported that he provided a "negative" response to a request to re-join the SVR 7th Military District. Part of the problem is lack of able-bodied members to participate, the other problem was previous experience with some of the participants in charge.

Upcoming Events: Commander Fletcher passed around the authorization form from Kennesaw Mountain Camp #3 proposing a joint commemorization of the upcoming 150th Anniversary of Andrews' Railroad Raid. Their Camp is supposed to ride a bus coming up from Marietta. Stops will be made at various locations including Dalton and Chattanooga.

The Kennesaw Camp has requested our camp participate with them, especially at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, for an apparent rifle salute at the burial place for James Andrews and seven of the raiders. No further details have been made available as yet. Commander Fletcher stated that he would pass along these details as soon as they are made available. It was hoped that four or five of our Camp members could field weapons, and perhaps a few SCV volunteers would help complete a compliment of seven shooters. It was unclear whether or not a permit has been obtained or was needed to have a service to the Andrews' Raiders; and, whether or not the SUVCW would be able to fire a salute with or without a permit.

2012 Torchlight Tour: Mark Kemp presented a copy of a letter from the Camp that was mailed earlier this week to Ms. Debbie Hendricks, Director of the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The letter detailed the upcoming, annual Tour led by Chickamauga & Chattanooga Park Historian James Ogden. Jim Ogden has already stated that he would lead the Tour again this year, scheduled for Memorial Day, May 28, 2012.

Other events upcoming:
Siege at Bridgeport Re-enactment [150th Anniversary] (March 23-24, 2012)
Andrews' Railroad Raid [150th Anniversary] (April 14-15, 2012)
Confederate Memorial Day Ceremony, Georgia Monument in Chickamauga Battlefield (April 29, 2012)
Missionary Ridge Camp #63 Memorial Day Ceremonies (May 28, 2012)

NEXT MEETING: It was decided to await further information from the Kennesaw Camp to set the time and place on Saturday, April 14, 2012.

BENEDICTION: Bill Massey gave the Benediction.

ADJOURN: There being no further business to come before the camp, Commander Fletcher adjourned the meeting at approximately 3:00 PM.

Respectively submitted,
Harvey Scarborough, Acting Secretary
