Missionary Ridge Camp #63
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Department of Tennessee (including Alabama)

This meeting was held at 1 PM, Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge, Tennessee.

Members present: James Fletcher, Mark Steele, and Robert Dobbs.
Associate Member present: Harvey Scarborough.

CALL TO ORDER: Commander Fletcher called the meeting to order at approximately 2:00 PM ET after the attendees had finished lunch.

INVOCATION: Commander Fletcher gave the opening prayer.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commander Fletcher led the camp in the pledge to the flag of the United States of America.

Anna Lee Smith Dobbs Memorial Ceremony: Both Commander Fletcher and Robert Dobbs discussed the possibility of a memorial ceremony honoring Anna Lee Smith Dobbs (October 8, 1916 - March 17, 2011), Robert Dobbs' mother and real daughter of a Union Soldier. A ceremony was mentioned during a meeting held August 4, 2012 with Alma Webb, Organizing Regent of the Andrew Jackson Chapter, Chattanooga of the National Society of the Daughters of the Union 1861-1865. The Camp could provide an Honor Guard. Robert Dobbs said he would look into the possibility of having the family present on a day to be set in the near future.

Treasurer's Report: No report was given.

Membership: Harvey Scarborough brought up the subject of this Camp's meeting time. He said that there is a group of about eight or nine gentlemen in the Chattanooga area that would be interested in joining the SUVCW; however, Saturday meetings are out of the question. He said that should these folks join this camp, that eventually, they could out vote the present members and change the meeting time. This would have the result of excluding the current members who would have a hard time meeting during the week and late in the evening.

It was further mentioned that this group might meet, or at least locate, in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia and that would be in the Department of Georgia and South Carolina.

It was noted that should this group wish to organize a camp of their own, their recruiting territory would be the same as Missionary Camp #63; and, could possibly include the territory of North Georgia, which would infringe on Kennesaw Camp's area.

Although there was no objection to having another camp organize in this area, it was felt that Camp 63 would like to continue its current existence.

Since many questions remained unanswered, it was decided to consult member Charlie Engle to get his understanding about Camps and jurisdictions. Harvey Scarborough agreed to email Charlie with the information discussed in this meeting.

NEXT MEETING: It was decided to meet on Saturday, November 10, 2012. The time and place would be announced later, but it was believed to be here at Wally's and at 1 PM Eastern.

BENEDICTION: Commander Fletcher gave the Benediction.

ADJOURN: There being no further business to come before the camp, Commander Fletcher adjourned the meeting at approximately 3:25 PM.

Respectively submitted,
Harvey Scarborough, Acting Secretary
