By special invitation from the Sons of Confederate Vetarans, Missionary Ridge Camp #63, Sons of Union Veterans was invited to participate in this year's Georgia Confederate Memorial Day observance held Sunday, April 29, 2012. The venue was in front of the John B. Gordon Hall (a.k.a. Chattooga Acadamy). The focal point was the very nice memorial to all Walker County citizens who served the Confederate States of America.

Two Camp #63 members dressed as Union soldiers are in the pictures below. They are Color Guard members Harvey Scarborough, carrying the 34-star U. S. Flag, and Robert Dobbs, carrying the Camp's Flag. Photos are courtesy of Steven Woodard and his wife.

Above, we see the opening prayer. Following that were the pledges to the flags of the United States of America, the State of Georgia, and the Salute to the Confederate Flag which is typical at Sons of Confederate Veterans meetings. Below, John Culpepper gave a talk about the history and significance of April 26 as Georgia's Confederate Memorial Day.
Below, Missionary Ridge Camp #63 Commander, James Fletcher (wearing a Confederate uniform today to honor his Confederate ancestry) helped lay the wreath for the ceremony. He also gave the final prayer ending the service. Also present, but not pictured, was Camp member Mark Steele.
