Wally's Restaurant in East Ridge, TN. Those attending ate lunch prior to the start of the meeting.
|Those present: Jeffrey Webb, Tim Hill, Harvey Scarborough, John Sims, Bill Massey, Bob Dobbs, Mark Kemp,
Mark Steele, and guests Jon Jeter and Alma Webb.
Call to Order: Commander Jeff Webb called the meeting to order at 1:40 PM.
Pledge of Allegiance Commander Webb led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States.
Opening Prayer: Camp Chaplin John Sims led the group in prayer.
Chattanooga Area Veterans Council: John Sims updated those present about Camp 63's recent application to join the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council as an associate member. He thanked the Camp for participating in this very worthwhile cause. Secretary-Treasurer Mark Kemp immediately wrote a $20 check to cover the dues. John invited everyone to attend the quarterly meetings - the next one will be held at the VFW Post in East Ridge on Friday, September 9 at 11 AM.
Camp 63's EIN: Mark Kemp reported that he has completed the necessary paperwork to make sure the Camp has its EIN registered properly with the IRS. The Camp's number is 62-1689493 and it is current with the IRS through 2016.
Two New Members: Mark Kemp also reported that the Camp has two new members: Tom Chumley (who is also a member of the SUVCW in California) and Tyler Suttle.
Treasurer's Report: Secretary-Treasurer Mark Kemp reported that the Camp's treasury balance was $938.90 less the $20 check written today for the Veterans Council membership.
Membership Roster: There was some discussion about having a membership roster for the Camp that would be available to all the members. Bill Massey made motion to have a such a roster printed and made available that would include only paid up-to-date members as well as the Union ancestor(s) and unit. Secretary Kemp stated that he was able to obtain past Secretary Charlie Engle's camp records; however, it would take him some time to go through all the accumulated paperwork to find the correct documents so stating ancestors of the current membership. He said that he would try to get that started soon.
Potential Officers for 2017: There was some discussion about the available individuals who would be eligible to serve as officers for next year. It was noted that this is the second consecutive and last year Camp Commander Jeff Webb can serve as commander. He will need to be "off" at least one year before serving again as Camp Commander.
Both Mark Steele and Mark Kemp indicated a willingness to serve in their current capacities if so nominated. All parties were asked to give the potential nominations due consideration. Those mentioned once again are:

Christmas Party: Alma Webb stated that she and Jeff would not be able to host a Christmas Party get-together this year. She stated that her local chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the Union, 1861-1865 is considering a riverboat cruise on December 9 or 10 on the Southern Belle. She asked if any one from Camp 63 would like to attend as well. There were several members that indicated a willingness to attend. Alma said the cost would be $47 per person. More information would be forthcoming as soon as it becomes available.
Sons of the Spanish-American War: John Sims informed the Camp that the 80th Annual Convention of the Sons of the Spanish-American War will be held in Hixson, TN September 9-11. Opening ceremonies will begin September 9th at 7:30 PM. On September 10th, there will be two memorial ceremonies. One of the services will feature Civil War and Spanish-American War Veteran Joseph Wheeler (Chattanooga's Span-AM group's namesake)!
Next Meeting: Commander Webb encouraged those present to attend the next meeting, which will be held here at Wally's Restaurant on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 1:00 PM.
Adjourn: There being no further business to come before the camp, Commander Webb adjourned the meeting at approximately 2:50 PM.
